Van Pelt in court today

Former Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt (R-Ocean Twp.), who resigned from the Legislature last summer after his arrest on federal corruption charges, will appear before U.S. District Court Judge Joel Pisano today on a motion hearing.  Van Pelt, the most prominent Republican official to be connected to the Operation Bid Rig arrests last July, is accused in an indictment of taking a $10,000 bribe in exchange for influencing real estate development issues before the state and Ocean Township, where he was a former mayor.  After his arrest, he was fired as the Lumberton Administrator.
