White House Isn’t Happy With CBS Blog

The administration’s ire is no longer reserved for Fox News.

The White House is upset that CBS posted a blog item by former RedState writer Ben Domenech declaring the Supreme Court favorite Elena Kagan would be the first “first openly gay justice.”

There was similar speculation over Sonia Sotomayor, but never that kind of blanket assertion from an outlet with the imprimatur of CBS News.

“The fact that they’ve chosen to become enablers of people posting lies on their site tells us where the journalistic standards of CBS are in 2010,” said former White House communications director Anita Dunn. A current spokesman said the post “made false charges.”

So Mr. Domenech added an update: “[Update: While Karlan and Sullivan are open about it, I have to correct my text here to say that Kagan is apparently still closeted — odd, because her female partner is rather well known in Harvard circles.]”

Quite a correction. So CBS added another update: “CBSNews.com Editor’s Note: A White House spokesperson said that Domenech’s reference to Ms. Kagan as gay is innaccurate. In a statement to CBSNews.com, Domenech wrote: “I offer my sincere apologies to Ms. Kagan if she is offended at all by my repetition of a Harvard rumor in a speculative blog post.”

The Washington Post says the item was taken down last night, but it appears to be back up–with the above addenda–right here.
