The north end of Times Square was evacuated early this afternoon due to a suspicious package that, in the end, contained nothing but the makings of an agreeable Friday.

The Times and Daily News disagreed over whether the item in question was a “white cooler” or a “grayish canvas bag,” but both said it was filled with books and water bottles. The seen-something was reported just before 1 p.m., and forced an evacuation from West 44th through West 47th street. The blocks have since been reopened, but Twitter was quick to provide pictures of the empty tourist hub.

The afternoon’s bomb scare actually marked the second at Times Square on Friday. The first was caused by a black duffel bag, reported at 9 a.m. by a cupcake vendor. The New York Times said the afternoon’s alert was the seventh in the area since Saturday’s botched bombing. Whether we’ll double up on future Fridays remains to be seen.
