If Arlen Specter loses the Democratic primary for United States Senator in Pennsylvania next week, he could add Jon Corzine to the list of people he blames. Independent polls have Specter and U.S. Rep. Joseph Sestak tied, 44%-44% — much different from the 45 point lead he enjoyed just after switching parties in April 2009 and being endorsed by President Barack Obama. Now that the race has tightened, Specter could use Obama’s last minute help, but that won’t happen: after Corzine and Massachusetts U.S. Senate candidate Martha Coakley lost despite last minute campaign appearances by the president, the White House seems determined not to put Obama in that position for a third time.
