With the nomination of Elena Kagan to serve on the Supreme Court, New York’s presence is growing.
In addition to Kagan, raised in Manhattan, there are these three:
Ruth Bader Ginsburg – Born in Brooklyn, 1933
Sonia Sotomayor – Born in the Bronx, 1954
John Roberts – Born in Buffalo, 1955
And then there’s Antonin Scalia, who was born in New Jersey but grew up in Queens after age six, and went to high school in Manhattan.
Over in the legislative branch, of course, New York is expected to lose representation. Depending how the Census counts end up, New York will probably lose one or two House seats.
