Newark candidates raise 85% of all statewide dollars for May 11 elections

Voters in 33 municipalities will go to the polls on May 11 to cast ballots in non-partisan municipal elections, but contests in Newark for Mayor and for nine City Council seats has dominated the fundraising.  Nearly 85% of the $11.4 million raised statewide has been in Newark, with Mayor Cory Booker’s team alone bringing in nearly $7.5 million.  Candidates in Paterson have spent $1.2 million, with $645,891 in Bayonne, $440,631 in Trenton, $194,311 in West Orange, $190,362 in Long Branch, $164,752 in Ocean City, and $147,816 in Clifton.
