NYC’s Weekly Top Ten in TV: 60 Minutes Continues to Earn its Independence

Top 10 shows in New York, April 26 to May 2, according to Nielsen Data (total viewers, time shifting/DVR not included)

Earlier this week, Gabriel Sherman reported in New York that CNN and CBS News were once again meeting to talk about news gathering partnerships.  One interesting bit from the story:

At CBS News, said one senior news executive, 60 Minutes would be exempt from any CNN partnership.

Such odd declarations of independence on the part of 60 Minutes from the rest of CBS News are something of a tradition at the network. How can one show get away with acting like an autonomous state?

Well it doesn’t hurt that week in and week out, 60 Minutes continues to put up big numbers.

This week, like seemingly every week we can remember, 60 Minutes landed back in the top ten shows in New York City:

(1) Fox-5….American Idol (TU)….1,835,000

(2) Fox-5….American Idol (WE)….1,804,000

(3) ABC-7….Dancing w/ the Stars….1,474,000

(4) Fox-5….Glee….1,285,000
