Ms. Domeniconi, a former president of both Real Simple and Time Inc.’s media group, has been tapped to fill Carol Smith’s shoes.

And big shoes they are! During her time with the glossy, Ms. Smith helped get Elle on TV shows like MTV’s The City and Bravo’s Project Runway. She was considered by some a “branding powerhouse.”

Ms. Smith is now problem-solving Condé Nast’s epicurean group, namely trying to find a way to keep the Gourmet brand alive.

Meanwhile Ms. Domeniconi has been left to problem-solve Elle‘s third-place ad sales and bring the brand up to speed on digital platforms, like the iPad. Her experience as a vice president at Microsoft should serve her well.

She will be looking to hire a publisher and vice president of brand development after she takes over, according to a spokesperson.
