And here comes the name-calling.
Shortly after the leaders meeting this morning, Senate Democratic conference leader John Sampson’s spokesman, Austin Shafran, released this statement:
“Doomsday Dean Skelos wants to shut down government and rob New Yorkers of the critical services they rely on. Jobs, health, public safety, transportation and education programs would be lost if he had his way.”
Like some comments made by the governor this morning, this appears an attempt to try to shine light on the Republicans’ just-vote-no strategy. Given that a few Democrats in the chamber are saying they will vote against the budget extender Monday, it couldn’t hurt to have some Republican votes.
