Colabella to run for Ocean County clerk

Ocean County Acting Clerk Scott M. Colabella today announced his formal entry into the race to succeed Carl Block as clerk.

Block left his clerk’s post last month to replace retiring County Administrator Alan W. Avery.

Colabella expects to land the endorsement of the powerful Ocean County Republican County Committee to become the Republican candidate in the November special election to fill the vacancy.

Before his appointment as acting clerk, the 50-year old Colabella of Barnegat Light served as deputy clerk since 2004. He is a former assistant to Gov. Tom Kean and worked in the Capitol Hill Congressional Office of U.S. Rep. Chris Smith (R-Hamilton).

From 1989 through 1993, Colabella was executive director of the Ocean County Republican Organization working under the direction of both former GOP Chair Joseph E. Buckelew as well as the present Chairman George Gilmore.

“My one, and only interest, in seeking the Office of County Clerk is to continue to build on the successful record of accomplishments and outstanding reputation that have been the hallmark of this office during my tenure,” said Colabella. “Over the last 17 years I have worked side-by-side with two County Clerks, Dean Haines and Carl Block to manage an office that is recognized throughout the state as one of the most cost-efficient and technologically advanced.”
