Dugan Jr. pulls out of assembly running

James Dugan Jr. has pulled his name from the running to replace disgraced former Assemblyman Tony Chiappone, who resigned this month after pleading guilty to corruption charges.

Dugan, who founded the Bayonne Community Action League and is a former aid to Joe Doria, said he is starting a new job with NJ AAA and cannot commit the time to the assembly.  Dugan Jr. served on the Meadowlands Commission beginning in February 2009 and begins his new job August 1.

Dugan’s father served in both the assembly and the senate.  His withdrawal leaves Bayonne Democratic Committee Chairman Jason O’Donnell as Chiappone’s likely replacement.
