Harvard Business School professor Geoff Jones, an expert on the beauty industry, spoke with the Big Think about the evolution of beauty (as both a business and an idea) through history.

He discussed the dominance of Paris and New York as global capitals of beauty–and how those two capitals compare to one another:

New York and the United States [have] come to represent a different vision of beauty. It’s a vision that’s more accessible, more democratic view of beauty, less complex, less chic, more hip, more exciting. Just like New York itself.
