Place: motor vehicle en route to the University of Akron gymnasium
11:35 a.m. I, the Chosen 1, am now choosing my choice.
11:41 a.m. I can’t forget where I came from, but growing up in the inner city is not the hardest thing in the world to do. The hardest thing in the world to do would be to win a championship for the Los Angeles Clippers, no matter what their current salary-cap status.
11:46 a.m. What is it all about? Basketball. Basketball and loyalty. And ultimately, loyalty is like a basketball. You bounce it, and it comes back to you. You score, that’s loyalty. You rebound, that’s loyalty. You pass, also loyalty. You sign with a team that doesn’t happen to be within your home state of Ohio, that’s just another form of loyalty, because your glory rebounds to Ohio, which is a score for the whole state, if not for Cleveland, but maybe for Cleveland, or Chicago, which is close enough.
11:53 a.m. They say if you make it in New York, you can make it anywhere. Is it true that if you’ve been offered a nine-figure deal in New York, you can also make nine figures anywhere?
11:57 a.m. Stay focused. Right now, it’s all about winning for me. Also, I want to be a billionaire. I have been Most Valuable Player twice. Someday I want to win Most Valuable Person-which is to say, I want to be richer than everybody else, including Bloomberg and Prokhorov.
Noon. I got 99 problems, but being Jay-Z’s bitch ain’t one.
12:01 p.m. Savannah is worried that if we move to Brooklyn, it might be tough to get Bryce Maximus into a good day care for the fall.
12:03 p.m. If I wish hard enough, try hard enough, find the right group of guys-like Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh-to dream along with me, then maybe, because there is always a maybe with dreams, I will become a billionaire … I mean NBA champion.
12:05 p.m. Am I being cavalier?
