NARAL Pro-Choice did not endorse any incumbent Democrats in the state senate out of frustration the Reproductive Health Act did not come to a floor vote. But the organization is taking another stab at getting the abortion rights legislation passed.
In a press release issued today NARAL asked the Senate to pass the act in Governor David A. Paterson’s special session.
A statement from the president of the organization, Kelli Conlin, acknowledged that the Reproductive Health Act might not be top priority:
While we recognize that fiscal issues are the main focus of this session, this is also an opportunity for the Senate to show real leadership, stand up for New Yorkers’ values, and make women’s health a priority. NARAL Pro-Choice New York calls on the Senate to bring the Reproductive Health Act to the floor while they are in Albany this week.
The Reproductive Health Act seeks to put abortion rights under of the state’s health care law instead of criminal law.
