Page Six reports today that Sumner Redstone is not at all ashamed by the revalation that he tried to cajole Daily Beast reporter Peter Lauria into revealing his Viacom sources. This is not entirely unexpected, as he knew he was leaving a voicemail for the reporter who just wrote an unfavorable piece about the mogul’s attempts to publicize a girl group — one he considers to be “revolutionary.” Plus, had you heard of the Electric Barbarellas before all this?
Apparently, he’s loving the attention on a personal level as well.”Sumner wants to be consequential. Sumner is really proud of what he did,” one source told the paper. “This guy is loving it, loving the fact it’s on the ‘Today’ show. He likes people to know he’s still alive.”
Lauria’s initial story described Redstone as “taking his dirty old man act a bit too far” and the Post gets into that, too, saying that the band’s frontgirl received stock options when she was assistant at MTV. Someone who has “worked at MTV networks for 20 years” said that was out of the ordinary. But this band is revolutionary! You can’t expect them to play by the rules!
