Several months ago this column reported that Police frontman Sting’s duplex apartment at 88 Central Park West finally went into contract after being on the market for nearly four years, originally listed in 2006 for $24.9 million with the late Linda Stein, broker to the stars who was horrifically slain by her recently convicted assistant, Natavia Lowery.
The apartment’s last listing price before going into contract was $19 million with Halstead‘s Mark D. Friedman. Now the sale has hit city records, revealing that the four-bedroom, 6,600-square-foot apartment (which Sting bought from Billy Joel in the 1980s) sold for $17.75 million, a 29 percent decrease from Stein’s 2006 listing price, and sold to a Mr. Michael S. Naify. The deed was recorded under Sting’s given name, Gordon Sumner, a celebrity tactic also used by Whoopi Goldberg, who sold her Wooster Street loft last year under her birth name, Caryn Johnson.
