Essex intriguers who whispered about a heated discussion between state Sen Richard Codey (D-Roseland) and North Ward Democratic leader Steve Adubato last night will be disappointed to learn that there was no nose-to-nose context to the encounter.
Codey went into enemy territory to back up Essex County Democratic Committee Chairman Phil Thigpen, whose fundraiser was at Nanina’s in the Park, and who last week put in an appearance at Codey’s fundraiser/golf outing.
Long at war, Codey and Adubato huddled up long enough to turn heads.
“Just the opposite,” Adubato told PolitickerNJ.com when told that some onlookers concluded it was all close quarters vitriol. “I really feel his brother is a good person.”
The state senator’s brother pleaded guilty last Friday to third degree theft in connection with his former job as president and general manager of Freehold Raceway Park.
“I told him (Senator Codey) I thought his brother is a good person,” Adubato said.
