There is increasing Monmouth County buzz around Councilman Mike DuPont of Red Bank as a 2011 Democratic Party candidate for state senate against Sen. Jennifer Beck (R-Red Bank).
DuPont is a law partner of former Red Bank Mayor Ed McKenna.
For three years, speculation centered around a potential District 12 senate bid by Marlboro Mayor Jon Hornik, a rising star in the Democratic Party.
But the temper of the times in Monmouth – a combination of Christie love, GOP strength, little money in county Democratic Party coffers, not to mention Beck’s independent streak and popularity in the district – has spun the vector away from the Marlboro mayor, who’s up for re-election next year.
For now, DuPont appears poised to make the play, according to party sources.
