Currie selects Berdnik as his choice to run for sheriff

PATERSON – Passaic County Democratic Committee Chairman John Currie unveiled Clifton Police Det. Lt. Richard Berdnik as his choice for sheriff this afternoon inside the county administration building.

“Professionalism and credibility,” said Currie, with Berdnik and Berdnik’s family at his side.

“Quite honestly, I feel I am the man for the position,” said Currie’s choice, who will now go before the county committee tomorrow in hopes of their ratification.

Currie wants Berdnik to supplant Jerry Speziale on the Dems’ ticket to run against Republican Felix Garcia, a former undersheriff with the Sheriff’s Department. Speziale abandoned the sheriff’s office two weeks ago to pursue an opportunity with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
