Girgenti’s silence benefits Berdnik

State Sen. John Girgenti’s (D-Hawthorne) status as the Democratic Party favorite to replace Passaic County Sheriff Jerry Speziale on the Nov. 2nd ballot erodes day-by-day as the veteran legislator persists in not showing much interest, according to party sources.

Simultaneously, Democratic Party sources say Clifton Police Officer Richard Berdnik continues to impress.

The two most important party power players in the county right now, Party Chairman John Currie and U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson), both like Berdnik, a buttoned down cop with a good rep who can land Police Benevolent Association (PBA) support if he runs, sources say.

While Berdnik went to the Democratic Party campaign headquarters opening last Friday in his hometown and worked the phones for party support, Girgenti didn’t break off his vacation to be in attendance.

Democratic Party leaders were watching.
