While the pre-Gov. Corzine New Jersey GOP was forced to assume the fetal position at the height of the Bush era, safe-district Republicans relied on national security soundbites to coast through four elections while the president’s numbers tanked and all but beached his party in the Northeast.
For U.S. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-Harding), the 911 dirge worked then, and works now, as Republican sources say the protected Frelinghuysen will serve as long as we wants in the 11th District.
“New Jersey is a ‘9/11’ State,” the congressman says on his 2010 campaign website. “I never forget that we lost 700 neighbors, friends and family members that awful day and take very seriously my oath to protect America from violent international extremists and foreign powers that seek to do us harm.”
