Paris Hilton Arrested (Don't Call It a Comeback)

Oh, dear. Paris Hilton hasn’t been in the news much lately. We thought that meant she’d settled down, taken up a hobby (Wii Tennis?) and started planning for her future.

Maybe not. Last night she was arrested on a drug charge. In Vegas. Which, hello, is a total cliche. Specifically, she was in a car that was stopped by police after “officers noticed a vehicle leaving a smoke trail of a controlled substance and made a stop based on that,” according to a police spokesman. (Which sounds like a movie. Specifically Up in Smoke, directed—as it happens—by Lou Adler, the pops of Paris’s sometime pal, Cisco Adler. So it all comes full circle!) Paris was searched, and the police found cocaine. Sigh. She spent the night in the pokey and was released on her own recognizance.

The AP’s report helpfully points out that this wasn’t supposed to happen. After she spent 23 days in jail on a reckless driving charge, she told Larry King she was planning to go straight, declaring that she “wanted to help raise money for kids and for breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.”
