Red hot group buying site Groupon sells discounted coupons on everything from sneakers to dates. Today founder Andrew Mason announced at TechCrunch Disrupt that he will pay couples $60,000 for conceiving a child during a Groupon date.
The baby bonus is a promotion for Groupspawn, a new dating site that Groupon launched today. Users can sign up and find matches for free. Groupon plans to make money by selling users coupons for discounts to restaurants, theaters and other amorous outings.
It’s usually not a good idea to father a child just to get a cash reward. But hey, this is the internet, and we’re all consenting adults who enjoy discounted goods. Groupon may not be able to continue these kind of shenanigans forever, but right now its brand of off color humor is helping to build the substantial buzz around the company.
