Last night for Fashion’s Night Out, Vogue‘s kindest dandy, Hamish Bowles, co-judged a makeup competition with Trish McEvoy, Catherine Malandrino, and blogger Bryanboy. The winning look was, in Mr. Bowles’ words, “a real incredible fantasy makeup — with beetle wings and gold leaf and everything.” While we were waiting for Prabal Gurung‘s show this afternoon, Mr. Bowles explained how he and the other judges chose a winner: “That was so, sort of, impressive to have done that in twenty minutes! I went for him because I felt it sort of reflected the whole spirit of Fashion’s Night Out, and that kind of exuberance and fantasy aspect of fashion. So it was good; but they were all really good!”
Mr. Bowles’s night didn’t end there. “Then I went downtown to the Rug Company to perform; I was singing Noel Coward songs,” he said. “I sang last year at Fashion’s Night Out and that was the first time I’d ever sung in public. And I was joined for my encore by Cheyenne Jackson, the Broadway star. We did ‘Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,’ which was really fun. He was just, I mean, so wildly talented and as nice and charming as he is talented.” We could say the same of Mr. Bowles himself.
