Ladies, Barbara Corcoran Says Move to Indiana to Find a Husband

It should come as no surprise to single women in New York readying to head out on the Friday night singles scene that the best way to find a mate is to move.

On the Today show, regular contributor, real estate mogul and apparently fledgling dating columnist Barbara Corcoran had this to say while showing off a charming $319,000 home in Michigan City, Indiana.

“Let me tell you something about Michigan City. It’s one of the best cities in the U.S. to find a husband,” Ms. Corcoran says. “There are a lot more women and men. The average age is 35 of those guys, and I say that’s the perfect time to get married.” (Ms. Corcoran is 61 and married.)

Let’s compare. In Michigan City, the ratio of men to women is 1.02, according to the most recent census. Contrast that with New York City, where the ratio is basically reverse that, with 1.1 woman for every man.

Proving that it’s not such a big jump from real estate to dating advice, Ms. Corcoran had this tidbit to offer in her 2003 book about business and life: “When there are ten buyers and three puppies, every dog is the pick of the litter.”
