Today marks 14 days until the primary, and earlier this morning, both sides of the 14th Congressional district fight took to the web in one last attempt to frame Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney before the final push toward the polls.
On the negative side, Reshma Saujani’s campaign opted for a new URL — “TheRealCarolynMaloney.com” — that leads with a video of Maloney some months ago, trying to deal with a rowdy constituent by imploring others in the crowd to clap over her objections. “Do you think that this video is a good example of how a representative should treat their constituents?” it asks. (The clip is only 20 seconds, so there’s not a lot of context.)
There’s also an online (push?) poll with some leading questions about Maloney’s record, and a third section outlining the timeline of a fundraiser she held during the conference negotiations over the financial reform bill–an argument the Saujani camp has made a centerpiece of its campaign since June.
To counter, Maloney has a new section on her website called “14 For 14,” that will highlight one of the congresswoman’s “landmark accomplishments” each day until the primary.
The kickoff accomplishment is her credit card reform act–“Carolyn”s own historic reform”–which passed last year and, as the site notes, has drawn praise from President Obama.
The competing sites would seem to set the script for the final push, with Saujani doing everything she can to knock Maloney from her incumbent’s perch, and Maloney basically ignoring her challenger’s accusations while touting her nearly two decades in the House.
