Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney released an official statement late yesterday regarding the indictment against former Bergen County Improvement Authority Ron O’Malley.
“I am outraged to hear about these allegations,” McNerney said. “In reading the indictment, it is clear no public monies were misappropriated. However, if the allegations of coercing Bergen County Improvement Authority employees to validate the actions alleged in the indictment prove true, I am extremely disappointed and angry.
“When Mr. O’Malley resigned from the Improvement Authority I ordered a comprehensive review into the Authority’s business and personnel matters,” according to McNerney’s statement. “While the review is ongoing, let me repeat that if any employees of the Bergen County Improvement Authority were remotely involved in inappropriate or illegal actions, they will be terminated and immediately referred to the appropriate authorities.
“To that end, I request the United States Attorney’s office immediately release the identity of ‘Individual 1’ referred to in the indictment so we can remove that person from the BCIA,” he said. Republican Chairman Bob Yudin called for law enforcement review when McNerney appointed his own investigator to conduct the aforementioned review. “Protecting the public’s trust is paramount and I will use every measure at my disposal to do so.
“Mr. O’Malley also has resigned his position at the Northwest Bergen Utilities Authority effective immediately.”
