The Associated Press is reporting that U.S. Senate Candidate Christine O’Donnell has pulled off an upset to win the Republican nomination in Delaware.
O’Donnell, a Tea Party candidate who got a last minute endorsement from former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, defeated moderate Mike Castle. Castle last week was endorsed by Gov. Chris Christie. Many pundits say O’Donnell’s victory over the more moderate Castle – a former governor of the state – gives the Democrats a near sure win in November as the party tries to hold onto the seat once held by Joe Biden.
O’Donnell’s win is almost sure to shake up Republicans nationwide as the party seeks to gain control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. The race also could give Palin-for-President supporters a notch in their belts while Christie’s nationwide appeal as a booster and potential 2012 contender might show a small ding.
