The endorsement is significant because Rice is going to need a big turnout on Long Island to offset Schneiderman’s base in Manhattan and among activists and union members. Yesterday, some of Schneiderman’s backers like 1199 and the Long Island Progressive Coalition rallied in Mineola for him.

Says Montano: “From his unwavering commitment to criminal justice reform to his lifelong efforts to bring economic fairness to all New Yorkers, Eric has the experience, the leadership and the progressive values to fight for us.”

No word on whether or not this endorsement will intimidate the other candidates.

According to his bio, Montano was also once the legal counsel to Larry Seabrook, but apparently not once that job got really busy.
