City Council passes sale leaseback resolution

NEWARK – The City Council a short time ago approved the sale leaseback portion of the city’s budget plan, which authorizes the sale of up to $45 million in city properties to the Essex County Improvement Authority fto be leased back to the city or a 20-year period.

The governing body was under pressure to pass the amendment to the budget ahead of next week’s vote on the full budget.

The vote was 5-0-1, with councilpeople Anibal Ramos, Carlos Gonzalez, Donald Payne, Augusto Amador and Mildred Crump voting yes; and Councilman Luis Quintana abstaining. City Council passes sale leaseback resolution
