A scheduled debate today between District 5 candidates was canceled after the radio station hosting the event cited “security concerns.”
Republican U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett was scheduled to debate Democratic challenger Tod Theise on WRNJ in Warren, but the station canceled last night.
A call to the station, based in Hackettstown, was not immediately returned.
It’s not known at this point what the concern was, but Garrett has had run-ins with independent candidate Mark Quick, a mason who has railed against illegal immigrants who he has said are ruining his business because they provide cheap labor to his competitors.
Quick was rmeoved last week from a debate between Garrett and Theise after he shouted at Garrett that illegal immigrants should be deported.
Quick has also been contacted by the police regarding calls he made to Garrett’s office last summer.
