We (literally) salute you Lt. Choi. Congratulations on beginning the re-enlistment process. As the poster child for the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” your application the military marks a watershed moment for gay rights. And you may well be back in uniform soon, given the military’s decision to accept applications from gays and lesbians. According to the Times, one reservist likened the response at a base in Arizona to “a giant shoulder shrug of ‘so what?'”

This all stems from a court ruling by Judge Virginia Phillips, of course, so she must be having a good day too. Her decision may be overturned on appeal, but it’s going to be awfully hard to reinstitute now that there are so many of you. It just would not be cool.
