When the teaser trailer for the True Grit remake debuted last week, most of the talk centered around its Oscar chances, and the fact that its subdued tone reflected the Coen brothers’ desire to adapt the 1968 novel rather than the John Wayne film that followed it. Over the weekend a longer trailer hit theaters and it’s now online. Starring Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld, Josh Brolin, Matt Damon and Johnny Cash, it differs from the first by virtue of there being many guns in it. The guns seem to say, “Don’t worry fellows, there’s still plenty here for you, even though there’s a young girl in the movie.” Or maybe they just want a positive review from David Sedaris.
Come for the guns, stay for the awkwardly delivered disabilities joke told by Matt Damon.
