Gene Shalit Leaving The Today Show: ‘It’s Enough Already’

Movie critic Gene Shalit will leave The Today Show on November 11 after four decades with the program, reports The Hollywood Reporter. He joined the show in 1970, replacing Joe Garagiola as a regular contributor in 1973.

Mr. Shalit said in a statement: “It’s enough already.”

A PR representative said he plans to pursue radio and commercial opportunities. He’s also apparently at work on a book titled Procrastination Is A Full Time Job.

He was best known for his punning. His recent work in that field included, “As Iron Man, Downey gives a riveting performance,” and “Some call it Shutter Island, but I call it ‘Shudder Island.'” He will be missed.
