The downtown dean told The Wall Street Journal that while there is no financing yet in place, he expects to begin construction by 2012 and have the project finished by 2014. Surely, it is no coincidence that that is when One World Trade Center is expected to open, with Conde Nast, the Chinese government and who knows who else in the building.

Indeed, the no longer surprising progress at Ground Zero has, among other things, sparked a groundswell of faith in downtown. It is almost surprising Silverstein has yet to secure a loan in light of that. Perhaps this is his way of putting the banks on notice. “Come on fellas. Let’s make a deal before you miss out.”
