Sweeney rejects Hanson conclusion on horse racing

In response to the Hanson Commission’s recommendation to consolidate the Meadowlands Racetrack with Monmouth Park and off-loading both into private hands, state Sen. President Steve Sweeney (D-West Deptford) issued a statement of rejection.

“The goal of the Gaming Summit and my legislative colleagues has always been to seek ways for our horse-racing industry to not only survive, but thrive,” said Sweeney.

“We have been working since the summer on bipartisan solutions that would protect the industry and the thousands of jobs it supports at the Meadowlands, Monmouth Park and the private tracks. We rejected the initial Hanson Report’s premise that there had to be winners and losers between horse-racing and Atlantic City, and we reject this addendum’s premise that there must be winners and losers simply among the racetracks.” Sweeney rejects Hanson conclusion on horse racing
