In weatherization issue, Buono identifies pattern in Christie administration rejection of fed funds

TRENTON – A disappointed state Senate Majority Leader Barbara Buono (D-Metuchen) panned the Department of Labor and Workforce Development for apparently foregoing federal weatherization training dollars as the State of New Jersey heads into the cold weather months.

“That’s unacceptable,” said Buono, who chaired a hearing on the state’s program aimed at helping making low income homes weather resistant under the auspices of the state Department of Community Affairs.

“It’s telling that tithe commissioner chose not to come to this committee hearing to testify regarding the groundbreaking news that he’s chosen to cut away over $1 million in training funding,” the senate majority leader added.

Whether it was Race to the Top education dollars, Access to the Region’s Core (ARC) money or weatherization training funding, the administration appears averse to making use of available federal dollars for key initiatives, Buono complained.
