Our pal Bob Knakal talked to The Real Deal recently about 8 Spruce Street’s potential to break rental records, which would mean beating out buildings like the the Trump World Tower, the Time Warner Center and even fellow starchitect Robert A.M. Stern’s indomitable 15 Central Park West.

Yet it is not the highfalutin architects behind these residences that have sent prices into the stratosphere, according to Knakal. “I think that the fact that the building was designed by what is referred to as a starchitect does add some cache to the building, but I think it really takes a back seat to the views and the amenities in the property,” he said.

The Observer can just hear Gehry now: “I’m the starchitect, you’re glue. Whatever you say bounces off my slick stainless steel facade and sticks to you.”
