A little-celebrated NFL franchise beloved by a small circle of fans recoiled in horrror today as two opportunistic politicians grappled bitterly over bragging rights.
The New York Daily News reports that Gov. Chris Christie and New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg both chest-thumped ownership of the New York Jets, who are making a run at the AFC Championship.
They practice and play in New Jersey, Christie argued, according to the report.
“We can all root for the Jets, but they don’t call him Turnpike Joe,” said Bloomberg, a reference to Broadway Joe Namath.
