Half the U.K. Uses Cell Phones In the Bathroom (But America Is Worse)

The bathroom is a dangerous place for a cell phone, especially in the U.K.

About 885,000 phones were accidentally flushed down British toilets in 2007.

But 50 percent of Brits still take their phones into the bathroom, according to a survey by PC World.

“Five out of 10 admitted to taking their mobile device or smart phone into the bath with them,” writes The Guardian. Fifty percent also admitted spending up to half an hour a day in bathroom phone time.

There’s no app that protects a phone in the shower. But there are several feature phones that can survive the elements (see video below of the Casio G’zOne being frozen in a block of ice). Motorola offers a waterproof smartphone called the Defy and there are waterproof cases for the iPad.

You could argue that Brits aren’t as bad as Americans, 72 percent of whom admit to taking business calls while using the toilet, 32 percent while in church, and 10 percent during sex.
