Jonathan Teo, who joined Benchmark Capital from Google in 2008, is making another shift. According to Business Insider, Mr. Teo is heading away from the Silicon Valley firm to join Boston-based General Catalyst, with an eye toward making New York-based venture investments.
The hire can be taken as a sign of General Catalyst’s bullishness on New York, if general manager Joel Cutler is to be believed.
“New York’s start-up culture is booming, and there’s so much brilliant talent that it’s attracted one of the Valley’s rising stars,” says Joel Cutler, managing director of General Catalyst Partners.
“We’ve been very active in New York for some time and with the increasing number of promising tech startups in the city, the time is right for General Catalyst to be there.”
General Catalyst has invested in Kayak, Boxee, Hunch and many others.
