The Oprah Winfrey Network Is Surprisingly Cutthroat!

We thought the Oprah Winfrey Network would be a televised cakewalk for Winfrey and her friends–indulgent interviews, tearful confessions, free stuff–but it looks like they’re playing the programming game pretty seriously.

They’ve already canceled a View-style morning talk show hosted by “Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star” producer Mark Burnett, reports Variety.

Yesterday it was announced that Swedish designers Simon Davies and Tomas Cederlund will launch a show in March called Home Takeover with Simon & Tomas.

“We have to be really smart about what goes on our air and when,” CEO Christina Norman told Variety. They do have something like 40 shows in the works.

The Mark Burnett show was still in development and didn’t even have a name yet. Perhaps Burnett didn’t go over well with test audiences. We’d be able to speak more to this, but we think we got kicked out of that focus group for “working in media.” The media owes us $100 and an hour to talk about our feelings. :: @kstoeffel
