TRENTON – At 9:30 this morning, state Sen. President Steve Sweeney (D-3), of West Deptford, announced a press conference for 2:30 today to unveil “sweeping reform” that someone (probably Sweeney) leaked to the Wall Street Journal and Star-Ledger yesterday. The “sweeping reform” is a bill requiring state workers to increase health care payments over seven years, an idea that draws on Gov. Chris Christie’s pitch to do exactly that immediately, not over seven years.
Maybe that’s why Christie announced an hour and a half later that he would beholding his own press conference at 2:00 – directly usurping Sweeney’s time slot.
Not to be outdone, Sweeney has preempted the governor and moved his presser to 12:30.
Since Christie is at a 10:30 town hall in Lincoln Park, Morris County, he’s got no shot of stealing Sweeney’s 12:30 thunder. The Governor’s Office is also not commenting on exactly what the governor will be discussing at his press conference.
