The supporters of former Cranbury Mayor Wayne Wittman want him to have an edge early in the Republican quest to wrest the 14th Legislative District seat away from state Sen. Linda Greenstein (D-Plainsboro).
To that end, they’ve scheduled a meet and greet with the PSE&G scientific researcher on Feb. 10.
“Wayne is getting started very early, and has been running in earnest in the 14th since December,” said campaign spokesman Chris Pordon. “He’s making a run against Linda Greenstein – a vulnerable incumbent. He’s raising money and knocking on doors.”
Middlesex County Republican Committee Chairman Sam Thompson plans to attend the mixer. Not that he’s endorsing Wittman, but Wittman’s on his radar.
“It’s a little early to talk about main candidates,” Thompson told PolitickerNJ.com. “He wants to run for Senate. At this time, people are coming forward. We have a process. We have a screening committee. I am very happy he is interested in running, but the county committee won’t officially take a position until after our convention,” which is not yet scheduled.
Christine Bader of West Windsor has also called Thompson to express an interest in the Senate seat.
