The poll, conducted by well-known GOP pollster Adam Geller of National Research Inc., questioned 500 registered voters from Jan. 26-29.

According to a polling memo obatined by PolitickerNJ, 22% of the sample were registered Republicans, 35% Democrats, and 43% were unaffiliated or Independent.

The poll included questions on education reform, including support for eliminating tenure and instituting merit pay.  According to the memo, 77 percent of those polled support eliminating tenure and 75 percent support merit pay.

Respondents were also asked about corporate tax incentives as a way to lure business to the state.  According to the memo: “Fully 89% of New Jersey voters support a proposal to provide tax incentives to businesses and corporations so they will come to New Jersey and create private sector jobs here.”

The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.38 percent.

Geller was Christie’s pollster during his 2009 run for office and was lauded for his numbers. During November’s Congressional race, he produced an internal poll showing 6th District Republican challenger Anna Little within one point of incumbent Frank Pallone a month before the election. The poll was leaked on Oct. 18. and picked up by POlitickerNJ and other outlets.  Pallone went on to win by 11 points.

The most recent inependent poll conducted by Fairleigh Dickinson University showed Christie with an approval rating of 53 percent with 36 percent disapproving of the job he is doing. The governor’s favorable versus unfavorable rating was not included in the polling memo obtained by Politicker.  In the January Fairleigh Dickinson poll, those numbers stood at 47 percent favorable versus 39 percent with an unfavorbale view of the governor. That poll, taken in January, questioned 802 registered voters and had a margin of error of 3.5 percent.
