New York’s Homeless Are Now on Twitter

At least, four of the male ones are. DanielDerrickCarlos and Albert have been tweeting for two weeks from prepaid cell phones given to them by three interns from the ad agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty.

The four have have had varying degrees of success navigating Twitter’s rules for @ replies but have gained an average of 1,900 followers each and managed to jump onto some 80 lists (e.g. “People needing extra love”). Aw, social media. The project is called Underheard In New York (a heavier play on this).
