Gov. Chris Christie signed legislation Friday that will expedite the establishment of off-track wagering in the state.
The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority will issue a request for proposals next week so that Monmouth Park can be run privately, the governor’s office reported.
In December, Christie announced putting an end to public subsidies of operations and purses for standardbred racing at Meadowlands Racetrack by leasing that site to the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association.
“We were successful in the Meadowlands, and we can do the same for Monmouth Park to the benefit of New Jersey taxpayers,” Christie said in the release.
