PETA to Protest Donna Karan Fur By Storming Office With Noise Of Screaming Rabbits

With Fashion Week just days away New York has to prepare for not only an onslaught of fab descending upon Lincoln Center, but also its inevitable byproduct: protests. PETA, everyone’s favorite vegan crusaders, certainly isn’t going to let the week go by as designers continue harming animals for their fur and skin.

Donna Karan, it seems, is the next target. The Observer has learned from a source within PETA that the group has a permit from the city that allows it to “blast Karan’s offices with the sound of screaming rabbits.” The noise will remind the designer that fur is murder, and to drive the point home protesters will carry signs that say “Donna Karan: New Age Hypocrite” and “Donna Karan: Bunny Butcher.” Subtle, guys.

PETA has promised the noise will not exceed 75 decibels at ten feet away, which comes out to somewhere between a dishwasher and a lawnmower.

The full release, and the picture of the permit, are below.

On Saturday, as Donna Karan prepares for her Fashion Week runway show, her midtown headquarters will receive a noisy wake-up call, courtesy of PETA. The group has secured a sound permit (image below) from the New York Police Department to blast Karan’s offices with the sound of screaming rabbits. Protesters will also stand outside holding signs that read, “Donna Karan: New Age Hypocrite and “Donna Karan: Bunny Butcher.”

The recording was taken during an undercover investigation of a fur farm in China, where Karan sources rabbit fur for her designs. Video footage shows workers pulling rabbits out of cages by their ears and stunning the screaming animals with electrical devices. Rabbits watch as other animals have their throats cut and their heads and paws cut off with knives before the skin is peeled off their bodies. PETA is calling on Karan to join the many top fashion designers—including Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger—who are 100 percent fur-free.
