This week the internet will run out of space, as the last IP addresses on the current system are doled out.
When this happened with telephone numbers, the system switched over to a new protocol that used more digits.
A new system is in place for the web as well, but it has not been tested yet.
“So in June, Google, Facebook, Yahoo Inc. and others will switch over to the new addresses for one day in the first wide-scale test of the new network, dubbed IP version six, or IPv6,” reports The Wall Street Journal.
