New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman John Wisniewski backed Friday’s labor rally in Trenton in a prepared release.
“The Governor’s definition of ‘the new normal’ apparently means providing false choices that won’t truly solve our problems and merely serve to assign blame while stirring up anger,” said Wisniewski.
“The essence of New Jersey’s pension problems stem from previous and current governors not being responsible with pension payments and management. The dishonesty inherent in Christie’s “deal,” where he will make a required pension payment in exchange for additional political concessions is a great demonstration of the twisted logic that brought the state to our current predicament. “
The rally outside the Statehouse included national and statewide leaders of the AFL-CIO, other organizations, and representatives of public worker unions in Wisconsin, where that state’s Assembly early Friday passed a measure to strip many collective bargaining rights from public employees. Wisc. Gov. Scott Walter has called for stripping many collective bargaining rights away, but Wisconsin Senate action is on hold as many of that state’s Democratic senators have left the state.
